Learn How to Handle a Variety of Situations

Driving is not just about getting from point A to point B. When someone is driving, they need to look out for obstacles that could lead to an accident. When students take a course through a driving school, they have the ability to learn how to handle a variety of situations. Of course, they’ll learn how to drive the vehicle when it’s nice and sunny outside. But, there are other conditions they’ll need to be aware of and learn how to handle.

  • Driving at night - Driving at night can be scary for new drivers. The bright lights from other cars can make it difficult to see, and there’s a higher chance of an accident compared to the daytime. New drivers will get the chance to learn tips that can help them drive safely at night, no matter where they need to go.

  • Driving in the Rain - Slick roads often cause accidents, so it’s crucial to know how to drive in the rain. New drivers should learn how to drive in wet conditions as well as how to prepare for and handle what other drivers might do when the weather’s not so great.

  • Driving in the snow - Driving in the snow, like driving in the rain, can be problematic for even experienced drivers. New drivers will learn what to expect if they drive while it’s snowing as well as how to handle the vehicle and when to just pull over to avoid an accident.

Learn About Licensing Requirements

Licensing requirements can be a bit confusing for those who haven’t gone through the process recently, or ever.  There are certain steps that need to be taken before a person can get their driver’s license, including getting a learner’s permit, taking the written exams, and taking the driving test. During the driving school classes, new drivers can learn more about the local licensing requirements so they’ll know what they need to do, what they need to bring when they’re ready to test, and what they should expect to happen during the written and driving tests.

Learn Federal Laws and Regulations

learn federal laws and regulations
Along with the local laws and regulations, there are federal laws and regulations that pertain to drivers. Federal laws and regulations are those that are common, no matter where the vehicle is driven. Even if you drive out of state, a stop sign still means stop, and cars must have lights and signals functional. Some laws are common throughout the US, and these laws are taught by the driving school, so the new driver understands what they need to do whenever they’re on the road. Even if there won’t be a road trip for another few years, these laws are in use in every state, so they need to be learned by every new driver.

Learn Local Laws and Regulations

Cell phone policy laws are a good example. Though most states do have a policy for using cell phones while driving today, they can vary between states. Students taking courses through a driving school have the opportunity to learn more about the local laws and regulations, especially those that might pertain to them. This includes regulations for new teen drivers, such as how many people can be in the vehicle or when the teen can start driving at night. These laws are in place to promote safe driving, and a failure to follow them can lead to a ticket, so understanding them is vital before driving for the first time.

Pass the Written Test

The first big test a new driver takes is the written test. This is done at the DMV, and drivers must pass it to be able to get their driver’s license. During the driving school lessons, new drivers can learn about the local and federal laws and regulations for driving, which will likely appear on the written test. The written test generally covers signs on the road, when to use turn signals, who is able to go when the light is red, and more.
By passing the written test, the new driver has shown they understand the rules of the road and are ready to start learning to drive. At this point, they’ll be able to practice driving so they can feel more confident behind the wheel and be able to drive safely. Once they have practiced driving, the next step is to take the driving test.

Pass the Driving Test

The driving test is the final test before a person can get their driver’s license, so it’s not uncommon to be nervous. Done at the DMV, the new driver will go in the vehicle with a tester and will be asked to perform various driving maneuvers such as turning onto a road, turning off a road, parking in a parking spot, and more. This test is designed to make sure the driver has the skills needed to control their vehicle and will be able to drive safely if they receive their driver’s license. If the student doesn’t pass, the test can be retaken at a later time. If the individual does pass, they can obtain their driver’s license.
